The One Number Worth Knowing Before You Buy a Pool Fence: 316

Here’s a fun bit of trivia that actually saves you money long-term: not all “stainless steel” is created equal, and the difference comes down to a single number. Once you know it, you’ll never look at a quote the same way again.

What “316” Actually Means

Stainless steel grades come down to what’s mixed into the alloy. Grade 316 includes molybdenum, which makes it noticeably better at shrugging off salt, chlorine and humidity than the more common — and cheaper — 304 grade.

Why It’s a Bigger Deal in Australia

With most of the country living near the coast, and every pool fence sitting in chlorinated water and outdoor weather year-round, this isn’t a technicality — it’s the difference between a fence that still looks great in ten years and one that’s rusting by year three.

How We Build With It

Every Sentrel cable system uses 316 marine-grade stainless steel, paired with our self-tensioning design so there’s never any manual adjusting. It’s backed by a 15-year guarantee, because we’re genuinely confident it’ll hold up.

A Handy Question to Ask Any Supplier

If a quote looks surprisingly cheap, it’s worth simply asking what grade of steel is specified. It won’t show on a brand-new fence — but it shows up exactly when you’d rather it didn’t.
